Kanika & Me!

We spent some great times together last week. We spoke on various issues and had some nice meals together whilst shuttling to & from Westmead Hospital, where Dad was admitted.  It was a learning process for both of us as some of her apprehensions were bitterly true...
Kanika will be spending 50% time with Me and 50% with her Mum henceforth as she does need a Mother to love her... However she is always welcome at home even and Dad's just a phone call away!

Last night we saw 'Enchanted' a two year old Walt Disney movie which was nice...

Nice Quotes for the Selfish... Family & Friends pls read!!!

~ Glory built on selfish principles is shame and guilt. ~

~ Selfishness at the expense of your lover's happiness is demonism. ~

~ The human being who lives only for himself/herself finally reaps nothing but unhappiness. Selfishness corrodes. Unselfishness ennobles, satisfies. Don't put off the joy derivable from doing helpful, kindly things for others. ~

~ Selfishness, when it is punished by the world, is mostly punished because it is connected with egotism. ~

~ Selfishness must be discovered and understood before it can be removed. It is powerless to remove itself, neither will it pass away of itself. Darkness ceases only when light is introduced; so ignorance can only be dispersed by Knowledge; selfishness by Love. ~

~ The selfish person cuts away the sand from under her own feet, she digs her own grave; and every time, from the beginning of the world until now, God Almighty pushes her into the grave and covers her up. ~

~ Those who do not hate their own selfishness and regard themselves as more important than the rest of the world are blind because the truth lies elsewhere ~

Thanks to all for your good wishes, for your telephone calls, for your concerns and for your hospitality during these trying times...
To those who were busy and or didn't have the time I'd say "Frankly my dear I don't care a damn!"

Kiruna - Some pictures

The Hotel Scandic Ferrum

The Train that got me here

Sanjay is off to Kiruna today!

Sanjay is off to Kiruna which is north of the Arctic Circle for the weekend. I'm sure he'll have a nice time unwinding from work. have fun bro!

Kiruna is located in the north of Sweden, 145 kilometers north of the Arctic circle. The city centre is built on the Haukavaara hill at an altitude of 530m, high above the Torne river to the north and the Kalix river to the south. Other parts of the town are Lombolo and Tuolluvaara. Near Kiruna are the mountainsKiirunavaara and Luossavaara. Kiirunavaara is an iron ore mine that is the town's primary economic resource. Luossavaara is a former mine and now used as a skiing slope.
The city is built near the lake Luossajärvi with outflow to the Luossajoki that flows in the Torne river at Laxforsen. The area around Kiruna is very sparsely populated. The northwest, west and southwest of Kiruna are dominated by the Scandinavian mountains, visible from the city centre. Swedens highest mountain, Kebnekaise, is 75 km from the city centre and can be seen from it as well. To the west isNikkaluokta and to the northwest are AbiskoBjörklidenRiksgränsen and the Norwegian town of Narvik, 180 km via the road. 12 km north of Kiruna is Kurravaara, on the edge of the Torne River. The land north of Kurravaara is roadless, uninhabited land, partly barren and partly birch forest, up to the Norwegian and Finnish borders at Treriksröset. The lower-lying east is dominated by boreal forest, stretching hundreds (if not thousands) of kilometers into Finland and Russia. Around 15 km east of Kiruna is a group of villages at the Torne River, most notably Jukkasjärvi, where an ice hotel is built in winter, attracting tourists from all over the world. The twin cities Gällivare andMalmberget are some 120 km south of Kiruna.
Kiruna became a Swedish city on January 1, 1948, and was at one time listed as the largest city in the world by area,[3] even if most of its territory of course was non-urban. After the Swedish municipality reform in the 1970s, the term "city" has been legally discontinued. Today only the built-up area is considered a de facto city.
Being located 145 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, Kiruna has a Sub-Arctic climate with short, cool summers and long, cold winters, although the city itself can be considerably milder than the surrounding forest. Snowcover generally lasts from mid-October to mid-May, but snowfall can occur year-round. The sun doesn't set between May 30 and July 15, and perpetual daylight lasts from early May to early August. The period that the sun doesn't rise lasts from early December to early January, the exact boundaries depending on local topography. In this time of the year, a few hours of twilight are the only daylight available.

All Reports Clear...

All of Dad's Reports & Test were clear other than his radiation ulcer which is the root cause of pain so today the Pain Management Team will most likely start addressing how to best manage pain whilst the gastrointestinal team will work on how to ensure the ulcer heals in the fastest possible way. Radiation ulcers are very difficult to treat and can take long to heal as the blood supply to the area around the ulcer is very little due to the effect of radiation.
Things look brighter... Dad looked a bit more cheerful... And hopefully all should be well.. fingers crossed. I hope he's home on his birthday ie. 27th Jan..

Update on Dad...

Today dad went into the Operation Theater for further diagnostic tests. he had a cystoscopy done and the urinary tract was monitored and biopsies were taken. It was sad to see dad in pain and I wish I could take away some of his pain but alas...
He came out of the Operation Theater with a catheter which should be removed today as the doctors wanted to monitor the blood in his urine.
Looking forward to a better day tomorrow hoping its a better day....
Thanks to Anjali & her Mum for dropping by to visit Dad. Thank you Asha Aunty & Kishen Uncle for bringing dinner as the parathas were great!

Ice Sculptures in York

Every year in York they dedicate a street to Ice Sculptures. People come from miles around to view the sculptures, so Simon and I braved the cold weather and went to see them just before Christmas (luckily just before the snow came).

A few photos of York round Christmas time. There were a couple of Reindeer's at a shop just close to our house in York

And a really cute picture of Tanuka and Ja's new puppies Naboo and Kipper!!!!

Best Wishes to Tayaji

Just a quick note to give our love and best wishes to Tayaji while he is recovering in hospital. Please drop me an email when you are home and resting. All the best Nisha and Simon xxx

Update on Dad...

Dad had a rather nice day and seems to be on the road to recovery although pain seems to be a major issue. Tomorrow he goes into the Operation Theatre under General Anasthesia with the Urologist, Pain & Gastrointestinal Team and will have a few biopsies taken to try and isolate and identify reasons for Pain.
Will keep you all posted on developments.

STOCKHOLM: Just arrived here last night.

Thanks to all friends & family...

Thank you Asha Masi & Kishen Uncle, Nishi, Sanjay, Mrs Chopra, Sangeeta & her husband, Anju Didi & Dipak Bhai Sahib, Gita Taijee, Vikram & Shuchi for taking time off your busy schedule & meeting Dad.
Thank you Rajinder Chachaji & Vijay Chachaji for your comforting words and for being with us whilst you're miles away.
To my dear brother Sanjay, who is in Sweden for a while, here's a very special thanks to you for co-ordinating with the Westmead team of doctors virtually and via telephone to ensure Dad gets the best possible treatment.
I am sure with all your good wishes Dad will be on the road to recovery...

Dad's Update

Dad has had a series of tests last week which included colonoscopy, CT Scans, Blood, Urine, Stool tests. The Gastrointestinal & Pain management Teams should work cohesively to address the issues in the week starting tomorrow. Sanjay is corresponding with the team of doctors which is very reassuring and they have responded very positively with him and his suggestions.
We hope and pray all goes well. Special thanks to Shuchi, Sanjeev & Anjali for their support and precious time all thru the last week, which gave me that additional support & strength thru this difficult period. Thanks to our family for their good wishes. Will keep you all posted of the developments.
At this stage Dad is expected to stay in hospital for a while.
