On my return from Australia, I had to visit Hoshiarpur in connection with Bijis house . Whilst visiting the muncipal committee for locating the records of the house I came across the Birth & Death Cell. Out of curiosity I entered their room and enquired as to how old are there books. On being told that they had records from nearly 1900 onwards , I decided to apply for my birth certificate since I was born in Hoshiarpur. I quickly scribbled the application and gave seven rupees as fee.
Sure enough after two weeks, the time they had given , I was informed that they had found the details. So now I have a certificate in Urdu , the official language followed that time. I can read Urdu, I had no difficulty in deciphering it
Believe it, the records are kept in books , bound at that time. and not on CDs... Amazing isnt it that records from 1939 were still available!
